"Not afraid of death": Jurassic Park actor Sam Neill opens up about his blood cancer battle

In a recent update, renowned actor Sam Neill opened up about his ongoing battle with stage-three blood cancer. The 76-year-old actor, known for his iconic role as Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park franchise, revealed that he has been informed by his doctors that the cancer treatment drug he is currently receiving will eventually lose its effectiveness.

This news comes months after Neill initially disclosed his diagnosis with angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma. Neill's journey with cancer began in early 2022 when he discovered lumps in his neck. He promptly sought medical attention, and it was confirmed that he had cancer.

In his memoir, "Did I Ever Tell You This?," released earlier this year, the actor detailed his cancer treatment experience. Initially, he underwent chemotherapy, but the cancer ceased to respond. Subsequently, he turned to a rare anti-cancer drug.


In a recent interview with ABC's Australian Story, Neill shared that he has increased his dosage of the treatment, describing it as "grim and depressing," from once a month to every two weeks. Remarkably, he has now been in remission for 12 months.

While Neill acknowledges that he will remain on this treatment indefinitely, he is fully aware that, at some point, it will cease to be effective. However, he faces this reality with remarkable courage and a fearless outlook. He states, "I'm prepared for that. I'm not remotely afraid of death."

Neill expressed his deep gratitude for his life and the people in it, especially his grandchildren. "I want to see them get big," he said. In his words, "As for the dying? I couldn't care less." He expressed a desire for another "decade or two" and emphasised his unwavering love for acting, a passion he has no intention of retiring from.
