Londonderry has a strong connection with the festival of Halloween, and the residents take it very seriously. The Derry City and Strabane District Council (DCSDC) organizes a four-day Halloween festival every year, which is widely regarded as the biggest in Europe.
According to reports, over a hundred thousand people are expected to visit Londonderry for the festival during the weekend. And most of them would be wearing fancy costumes. The four-day Halloween festival this year will also mark the return of the Halloween Carnival parade, which will be the first since the outbreak of Coronavirus.
According to a BBC report, the Halloween Carnival parade will take place on Monday and will have over 700 performers. Hundreds of participants will come from nearby schools, clubs, and groups through the DCSDC’s partnership with the North West Carnival Initiative.
During the pandemic, most of the events for the festival were conducted online. However, the Halloween festival organized in Londonderry last year was among the first major events in Northern Ireland after the restrictions were lifted.
