In what may be called a shock to Prince Harry and his wife Princess Meghan Markle, the Netflix docuseries based on their life did not get any Emmy nominations.

The docuseries scored a record number of views and became the second most-seen series streamed on the platform, only after ‘The Tinder Swindler.’ ‘Harry and Meghan’ was under consideration for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series ‘Harry and Meghan’ got a nomination for the Hollywood Critics Association Awards in the category of Best Streaming Nonfiction Series.

A huge wave of criticism followed the Hollywood Critics Association nomination and many people including some celebrities said that the series was ‘more fiction than nonfiction’ and attacked Prince Harry and Meghan as ‘whiners.’

The series hit the headlines in December after Prince Harry dropped the bombshell and accused the royal family of a ‘huge level of unconscious bias.’ Though he said that no one was responsible for such biases, rather these were reflective of the culture, the damage was done to the reputation of the palace.

The prince also said that when his relationship with Meghan Markle became public, both of them became the target of British media which talked about Markle’s biracial background, but the royal palace asked him to ignore it.

Netflix signed a deal with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for USD 100 million and this docuseries was a part of the deal. The series came under scathing criticism for many reasons. It was criticised for showing the scenes appear to be filmed at the couple’s residence in Montecito, California, but these were shot at different places.

Netflix was also criticised for showing the paparazzi around the Duke and the Duchess, but these scenes were the clipping of an event of a film premiere.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got comparatively better coverage in the U.S. than in the U.K. But Harry’s approval rating fell to 46 percent in the first quarter of this year from 52 percent in the last quarter of last year. Similarly, Markle’s approval dropped from 38 percent to 36 percent.
