Nicola Sturgeon has announced that she would resign as the first minister of Scotland. Sturgeon has said that no person should hold a particular political role for too long. Sturgeon has also claimed that she was lacking the stamina to carry on.

Sturgeon's shocking announcement has come amidst debate over Scottish government's gender legislation reforms. Sturgeon has instructed the ruling Scottish National party (SNP) to initiate the procedure to elect new leader.

Sturgeon has mentioned that she would remain in office until the SNP finalises her successor.
