Fans of dating reality series "Love is Blind" were in for a shock when they tuned in for the season three reunion, which aired on Thursday. Fans believe that Nick Lachey seemingly shaded his first wife, Jessica Simpson, when he told former contestant Matt Bolton on the show that marriage is "always better the second time." Agreeing with a fist-bumped, Bolton said, "Cheers to that" while laughing.

Lachey and Simpson, both 1990s pop icons, were married from 2002 until 2006. Their marriage was chronicled on the 2003-2005 MTV reality show "Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica". Simpson married former football player Eric Johnson in 2014, while Lachey married then-Vanessa Minnillo in 2011. Both have three kids each in their new marriages.

Lachey’s comment on his ex-wife had his fandom divided. Some defended the "I Wanna Love You Forever" singer over the remark, while others called it tasteless. One person tweeted, "say what you will about love is blind season 3 but nick lachey did not have to bring jessica simpson into this".

The former couple has been open about their marriage in the past. Simpson in her 2020 memoir "Open Book," spoke about the difficulties of navigating a new marriage while making a reality series. Somewhere in the book, she says: "When he proposed in 2002, I said yes. We were young and pioneering our way through reality television, always mic’ed and always on. We worked, and we were great at it, but when it came time to being alone, we weren’t great at it anymore". However, she has no regrets about the former marriage as Lachey was her "first love”.
