New Year's Weather in the UK: Stormy Start to 2025 with Warnings Across England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland

The UK is preparing for a turbulent start to 2025, as the Met Office issues multiple weather warnings for high winds, heavy rain, and snow across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

The UK is bracing itself for a stormy new year as weather warnings dominate almost the entire country. The Met Office has issued warnings of high wind, heavy rainfall and snow for the next two weeks up to 2 January 2025 which will impact England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

Weather Warnings Across England

In England, four yellow warnings are in place. On December 30, a wind warning will affect the North Pennines and Yorkshire Dales from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Another wind warning will be in effect from 7 a.m. on New Year’s Eve, covering the northeast of England, East Yorkshire, and the northwest. A warning for strong winds is in effect for much of southern England and parts of the West Midlands on January 1.

Also, heavy rain warning will be issued to areas of northwest, including Manchester and Liverpool, from 6 hours on 31st December to 6 hours on 1st January.

Scotland is under five warnings, including an amber warning. The leading indicator of rainfall and snow is now having an impact on almost the entirety of Scotland and may lead to flooding and disruption to travel. A fresh snow warning is active for Orkney on New Year's Eve, and central Scotland is under an amber warning for rainfall, which could cause property flooding and disruption to travel.

Northern Ireland’s Snow Warning

Northern Ireland has a yellow weather warning for snow from 7 a.m. on New Year's Day. Met Office first posted an alert for continuous snow across the area, but this was later lifted.

Due to the inclement weather conditions, disruption is likely to occur, and therefore it is important to continually monitor weather forecasts and warnings.
