New skin cream for vitiligo treatment causes controversy

A new skin cream treatment to treat vitiligo can be available at the UK National Health Service (NHS) if country's health experts approve it, according to a report.

The cream is known as ruxolitinib with the brand name of Opzelura. It has been dubbed as "miracle cream", as per the Evening Standard report.

Vitiligo is a condition that effects pigments.

Why is it controversial?

The cream has the ability to bring back the natural colour of the skin. It also helps remove whitened patches. This, if true, is unprecedented, as per the report.



However, there has been controversy surrounding the cream. There were reports that the cream has detrimental side effects including hampering the user's immune system. The cream has allegedly cause body inflammation.

Now body-positivity movement supporters have rasied question over the usage of the cream. According to them, one should not be afraid of Vitiligo.

If it is approved the cream will be available only after doctor's advise.
