New engine rules and regulations for Formula 1, 2026 have been approved. This has made way for Porsche and Audi to compete in Formula 1. Keep reading to learn more about it.

The widely anticipated approval of 2026 Formula One engine regulations by the sport's governing body is now here, which has also made the entry of luxury Volkswagen Group brands Porsche and Audi possible.
The FIA announced that the 2022 and 2023 specifications have also been revised to meet safety concerns of the WMSC.
The high-revving 1.6-liter V6 motors will remain in the new system, but the cars will have considerably more electrical power to run entirely on sustainable fuels. The removal of the current MGU-H part is a must for the future Volkswagen Group brands.
Mohammed Ben Sulayem's View on the New F1 Rules
According to FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, a significant amount of time and resources were spent on analysing and addressing the issue of vertical oscillation with the new generation of cars released this year.
Four Key Pillars for Formula 1
- The 2026 Power Unit will feature high-performance, strong V6 internal combustion engines that produce results comparable to the current models to maintain the spectacle and enable improved race ability.
- The 2026 Power Unit will now use a 100% sustainable fuel and increase electrical power distribution by up to 50% to ensure environmental sustainability.
- The issue of financial sustainability has also been addressed. The power unit financial regulations will keep Formula 1's cutting-edge technology on display while lowering racers' overall costs.
- The changes have been made to make it simpler and more engaging for new players to enter the game at a competitive level in the future and to draw in new power unit makers.
The FIA also pointed out the Silverstone collision when the car flipped, and the pointed top of Alfa's roll hoop got dug into the ground. As a result, now a rounded top is necessary.
