The critically acclaimed ‘The Father and the Assassin’ will return to the National Theatre. Paul Bazely will once again play Gandhi in the show.

National Theatre has made announcements about three new productions for its 2023 season. These productions include the revival of the award-winning play "Dancing at Lughnasa." Brian Friel's 1990 play will be directed by Josie Rourke in the Olivier theatre from April 6.

The cast of "Dancing at Lughnasa" will consist of Blaithin Mac Gabhann, Louisa Harland, Justine Mitchell, Siobhan McSweeney, Tom Vaughan-Lawlord and Alison Oliver.

"Dixon and Daughter" will be the second production that will run in the Dorfman theatre from April 11. Deborah Bruce will debut the play, which narrates the story of a woman, who confronts her life after being released from prison.


"Dixon and Daughter" will be co-produced with Clean Break. Its cast will include Alison Fitzjohn, Andrea Lowe, Yazmin Kayani, Liz White and Posy Sterling. Roisin McBrinn will direct the play.

At the screening ceremony, Mepham Otsal, a theatre artist from the National School of Drama, while speaking said, "It offers affordable tickets and has several facilities. The seating arrangement is also good. Being a theatre artist, it's very good for the people here as it will open a gate to the world of art and cinema."



Sushil, an organizer, said, "There would be four such theatres established in Leh. The initiative was taken to bring the movie experience to the remotest areas of India and can be expanded to the rest of the country. Theatres are arranged in a way so that it can operate in -28 degree Celcius."

The revival of the critically acclaimed "The Father and the Assassin" is also on the cards. The hit play, which was written by Anupama Chandrasekhar, will make its return to the National Theatre in September 2023.

Interestingly, Paul Bazely will once again portray Gandhi in the play. Casting for "The Father and the Assassin" has been done by Jatinder Chera and Alastair Coomer, while Rajha Shakiry is the costume and set designer. Siddhartha Khosla is the composer of the play, and Lucy Cullingford is the movement director.
