Naomi Ackie to play role of Whitney Houston in ‘I wanna Dance With Somebody’. See who is she

Famous English actor Naomi Ackie on Tuesday made a grand red carpet entry at the premiere of “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” in New York. The actor plays the role of Whitney Houston in the film and the movie will be released this year on December 23 in US and on December 26 in UK and Australia.

Ackie honoured the late legendary music icon by putting a spin on one of her most iconic outfits. On the event day, the 30-year-old actor was seen wearing a Swarovski crystal-encrusted Schiaparelli Haute Couture creation styled by Nicky Yates.

Ackie portrays one of the most popular recording artists of all time, while Stanley Tucci plays her mentor, Clive Davis, the music industry boss.


Born on November 2, 1992, in Walthamstow, East London, Ackie was one of three children in her family. The actor's father worked for Transport in Londo, and her mother worked for the NHS.



When Ackie was 11 she played the role of Gabriel in a nativity play at Walthamstow School for Girls.
This fueled her passion for acting and she later enrolled in the capital's Royal Central School of Speech and Drama to pursue her passion.

After completing graduation, Ackie got her breakthrough in 2016 in the film Lady Macbeth, for which he received a British Independent Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer.

Idris Elba, a well-known British actor, was impressed by her outstanding performance and chose Ackie for his 2018 directorial debut, Yardie. Then, in 2019 the 30-year-old portrayed the role of Jannah in the film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker.

Ackie later took on a more humorous role as Bonnie in the second season of Netflix's The End of the F***ing World in 2019 and showcased her love for acting. She made an appearance in the Steve McQueen series Small Axe a year later.
