Mobo Awards 25th-anniversary event: See who leads the nominations

The nominations for the Mobo Awards' 25th-anniversary event have been unveiled. The event, which takes place every year and celebrates music with a black background, will have a special ceremony at the OVO Arena at Wembley to mark its 25th anniversary on November 30, 2022.





Knucks, a London rapper and producer whose music incorporates rap and jazz, received nominations for album of the year for Alpha Place, best male act, and best hip hop act, while Mercury Prize winner Little Simz is close behind and settled on four, including album of the year for her fourth record, 'Sometimes I Might Be Introvert,' which was well-liked by critics. The chart-topping west London drill rapper Central Cee also grabbed four nominations, including best drill act.

This year, the organisers added two new categories: best alternative music act, which includes indie, rock, and punk acts; and best dance/electronic act, which includes acts from genres like jungle, drum and bass, house, and techno.

MOBO founder Kanya King stated, 'Today's announcement really shows what a great year it has been for the scene'.

'It's great to see Mobo once again recognize and honour the stars of the past and point out the stars of the future.' King added that they are 'proud to announce the addition of two new categories to recognise the breadth of black culture's influence on a variety of music genres and welcome more rising stars, ahead of what will be a truly can't-miss celebration of our 25 years.'

The names of the hosts and performers for the MOBO Awards event on November 30 have not been released yet.
