The 48-year-old David Carrick works for the parliamentary and diplomatic command of the Met Police and admitted to committing 49 offences over 18 years against 12 women. Some of the accusations include multiple counts, indicating that they pertain to more than 80 sexual offences, including at least 48 rapes.
The Met Police issued an apology when it was revealed that Carrick had been reported to them for nine prior occurrences, including rape and domestic violence charges, but had not been subjected to any disciplinary action or misconduct findings.
After serving in the army, Carrick joined the Met in August 2001 and began working with the force's legislative and diplomatic command in 2009. He met several of his victims at social gatherings or through online dating services like Tinder and Badoo; he then exploited his authority as a police officer to gain their trust. He admitted to raping women repeatedly over the course of months or years, frequently using violence that would have resulted in bodily harm to the victims.

The main investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Iain Moor, claimed that the "sheer volume of offences" revealed Carrick's "prolific and ruthless character," and he anticipates that even more victims will come forward. The false imprisonment allegations, according to Moor, are "shocking," and he said, "Carrick put his victims into a tiny under-stairs cupboard at his home address where they were kept humiliated and scared until he decided when they could come out. I've seen dog boxes that are larger."
Carrick "had come to the notice of the Met and other forces on nine occasions previous to October 2021," the Met Police said after he entered guilty pleas. According to the Met, Carrick had two inspections—in 2001 and 2017—and passed both times.
