Meghan Markle's first podcast premieres on Spotify, Serena Williams is special guest

Much acclaimed US professional tennis player Serena Williams was the special guest of the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle's new Spotify podcast 'Archetypes'.

The show was premiered on Spotify on Tuesday, and Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle talked about women and the history behind their societal stereotypes.

Serena Williams joined Meghan Markle for the first episode. Markle promised that the series would "dissect, analyse, and disrupt the identities that aim to keep women back."


Serena Williams and Meghan Markle spoke about how they face double standards when someone labels them 'ambitious'. Dr. Laura Cray, a UC Berkeley professor and gender in the workplace expert, also joined the two ladies.

Spotify has an exclusive deal with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Archewell Audio, and "Archetypes" is the first series to be launched on Spotify under the agreement. Spotify and Archewell Audio signed the deal in late 2020.




The Duchess of Sussex plans not to censor conversations with all her guests, and her guest list includes experts and historians that uncover stereotypes regarding women and their origins. The topic of discussion will also include how these shape the culture's narratives.

Meghan Markle said in her trailer that the podcast would talk about how women are raised, what they're told, and how the media reflects back on them. She questions where these stereotypes come from and why they shape and define women's lives.

Archewell Audio said that their partnership with Shopify outlines the content that would be uplifting and entertaining for audiences worldwide. Their deal also involves spotlighting diverse voices and perspectives and building community through values, narratives, and shared experiences.

Spotify had only produced one podcast before Archetypes. It was a holiday audio special in 2020. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle raised questions over misinformation regarding COVID with Spotify earlier this year. There was a massive backlash due to the misinformation on vaccines in "The Joe Rogan Experience." The duo met Spotify executives and were assured that Spotify would take care of the misinformation.

Apart from Spotify, Archewell Productions also has a deal with Netflix.
