Meghan Markle could not keep the promise she made to Queen during their first meeting; Details here

Meghan Markle’s first meeting with late Queen Elizabeth II lasted for about 20 minutes after Prince Harry introduced the American actor to his beloved grandmother.

In a last-minute affair, after Prince Harry realised that Meghan Markle was the woman he wanted to marry, the American actor met with the late Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle. Owing to the sudden arrangement of the meeting, Meghan had to learn curtseying through a crash course in the front garden of the castle from Prince Harry’s aunt, Sarah Ferguson.

The meeting between Meghan and the late monarch lasted for about 20 minutes and according to the book, ‘Elizabeth: An intimate Portrait’, Prince Philip's close friend Gyles Brandreth has claimed that the ‘Suits’ star utilised that time to make it evident that she wanted to focus entirely on her royal duties.

As per the book, the late Queen had told Meghan that the latter could continue her acting career if she wished. Brandreth writes that the late monarch did everything to make her future granddaughter-in-law feel welcome and even offered her to continue acting. But, Meghan was “ready for royal duty”, as per the book.


Brandreth has also claimed that during that meeting, Meghan promised Prince Harry’s grandmother but could not keep it. Prince Philip’s close friend has said that Meghan promised the late Queen that when it came to the Commonwealth, she will not let the monarch down. Believing the Duchess of Sussex, the late Queen gave prominent responsibilities to her shortly after the wedding to Prince Harry. On International Women’s Day, Meghan was appointed he Queen's Commonwealth Trust’s Vice President.

While Prince Harry and Meghan hoped to carry on their work within Commonwealth when they were planning on stepping back the senior duties, they remained unsuccessful. In their statement detailing their decision to quit the royal family, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had said, that they plan to balance their time between UK and North America while “continuing” the duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth and their patronages. But in the aftermath, the late monarch decided that the couple shall not take part in nay royal duties. Hence, the promise that Meghan made to the Queen was broken.
