Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is gearing up for a challenging match against Everton this Sunday, well aware of the heightened emotions surrounding the club's recent 10-point penalty. The penalty, imposed by an independent commission, stems from Everton's breach of Premier League profitability and sustainability rules.

Ten Hag acknowledges the frustration among Everton's players and fans and anticipates a spirited performance from the opposing team fueled by a sense of injustice. However, he is keen on steering his squad's focus inward.

"If they are mad and that’s their fuel, we have to match those standards. When we match the standards, we have a very good chance to win the game," asserts Ten Hag.

Ten Hag emphasises Shaw's significance, highlighting his physical and technical abilities, leadership qualities, and the stability he brings to the squad.

Addressing recent rumours of a fallout with Raphaël Varane, Ten Hag denies any issues and underscores the importance of internal competition within a top club.

"He’s a very important player, but there’s internal competition, and that [is how it] should be at a top club as we are," says Ten Hag. He clarifies that decisions regarding player selection are made based on the team's tactical needs.
