Manchester City vs Liverpool: Investigation launched after 15-year-old girl injured in Carabao cup match, 3 arrested

Greater Manchester police have started an investigation after a 15-year-old girl was injured during Manchester City's 3-2 win over Liverpool for the EFL cup quarter-finals, which is currently known as Carabao Cup. The police assured it was also investigating the assault on the junction of Ashton New Road and Alan Turing Way.

One person was also arrested for a racially aggravated public order offence, police said. Further two men were arrested on suspicion of trying to take a pyrotechnic into the ground.

Keeping several incidents in mind, GMP’s match commander Supt Gareth Parkin, said: “We are aware of a number of objects, including coins and a smoke bomb, that were thrown during the match”


He clarified that they will be investigating the incidents and reviewing CCTV footage from the night. He believes that throwing objects in a confined area can be dangerous, and can lead to serious and sometimes devastating consequences.



In a joint statement, Manchester City and Liverpool said the incidents were “wholly unacceptable” and “hugely disappointing”.

The clubs further added that Liverpool and Manchester City are fully committed to working together to eradicate these issues from their fixtures. These incidents have no place in football. They will be fully investigated, reported to the police and the individuals who are found to be responsible will be subjected to the sanction process of their respective club.
