Manchester City star Benjamin Mendy found not guilty of ‘six counts of rape’

Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy has been found not guilty of ‘six counts of rape’ and ‘one count of sexual assault.’

Jurors were unable to reach a decision on one count of rape and one of attempted rape and thus, there will be a retrial.

Benjamin Mendy’s friend, Louis Saha Matturie, was also found not guilty of ‘three counts of rape.’


The jury failed to come to verdicts on three counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault against him.

French defender and his friend, Louis Saha Matturie, had been accused of raping women at Mendy’s residence in Prestbury, Cheshire and at a flat in Manchester, UK.

As per reports, Benjamin Mendy hid his face behind the hands as the jury foreman repeated ‘not guilty’ to the six counts of rape.

Prosecutors told the jury during a six-month trial at Chester Crown Court that Mendy was a "predator", who used to pursue women for sex as a game. However, defence lawyers also reached out to jurors that while the case involved money, sex, and celebrity and had "all the makings of a good drama," there was a crucial "twist" in it that the accused were innocent.


Judge Everett put an end to the trial that had been ongoing since August 10. Mendy has been accused by 13 women of multiple sexual offences.

Lockdown-busting events took place at Mendy's residence and in an apartment he rented on Chapel Street close to Manchester's city centre, the court was told.

The Manchester City footballer was first arrested in November 2020. Following his arrest and imposition of rape charges, he was suspended by club in August 2021.

In a statement, Manchester City club said that as there are open matters related to this case, the club is not in a position to comment at this time.
