Manchester City's revenue during the previous year was £43.2 million. It was because most of the matches were played behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Khaldoon al-Mubarak, the club's chairman, stated that their goal was always to set the benchmark for other clubs and recent outcomes show that they were on the path of achieving their "long-term ambition."

The football club reported that it had made a profit of about £35 million on transfers agreed after the reporting date. It includes the purchases of Kalvin Phillips, Erling Haaland, Manuel Akanji, Sergio Gomez, and Stefano Ortega, and the sale of 17 players, including Raheem Sterling, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and Gabriel Jesus. Besides, the return of audience to the Etihad Stadium following the relaxations in Covid-19 restrictions secured £54.5 million in matchday revenues. Moreover, commercial revenue has risen from £271.7 million to £309.5 million.
