Man who allegedly threw egg at King Charles III arrested

An egg was hurled at King Charles III at St George's Square in Luton town centre. King Charles III was led away from the gathering outside Luton Town Hall by his security team immediately after arrival. According to Bedfordshire Police, the alleged assault occurred in Luton town centre when the monarch was visiting and greeting crowds. A guy in his twenties has been detained on suspicion of common assault.

The King is in Luton for a series of visits, including stops at Luton Town Hall and the newly constructed Guru Nanak Gurdwara. King Charles III looked to be in excellent spirits when he arrived, smiling as he met community leaders and volunteers. He was subsequently asked to unveil a plaque commemorating the Gurdwara's formal opening. The plaque indicated the date of Tuesday, and Charles quipped that it was a good thing he arrived on time. On his arrival at the town hall, he was welcomed by Susan Lousada, the Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, and the mayor of Luton, Councillor Sameera Saleem, before meeting with local groups and members of the public.
