Madeleine McCann disappearance: Arrest warrant issued for suspect Christian B

The disappearance of Madeleine McCann is one of the most famous unsolved crimes of the 21st century. And now, a German court has issued an arrest warrant for the prime suspect, Christian B, a convicted drug dealer and sex offender.

Christian B is currently serving 7-year imprisonment in a rape case and is due for release in September 2025. However, the serial offender is wanted in at least five sexual assault cases. Prosecutors in the German court in Braunschweig affirmed that Christian B could flee following his release or even commit similar offences after being released from jail.

In May 2007, Madeleine McCann, a three-year-old girl, disappeared while on vacation with her parents and twin siblings in Portugal. According to media reports, Madeleine was asleep along with her siblings in a ground-floor apartment in Praia da Luz, and her parents were having dinner with friends at a restaurant a few metres away. Kate McCann, the mother, had tucked the children in bed at 8.30 pm before going for dinner. However, when she returned back around 10 pm, Madeleine was missing.




Initially, the Portugal police made the parents suspect in the beginning after allegedly misinterpreting a DNA analysis. Their suspect status was overturned in July 2008. Scotland Yard began investigating that girl’s disappearance in 2011 after the parents continued the investigation through private detectives. However, Madeleine was never found.

After a decade, it came to light that Christian B, a drifter, was living in a camper van near the holiday resort from where Madeleine had disappeared. He first grabbed attention in 2017 after he allegedly told a friend that he knew all about what happened to the little girl.
