Liverpool advised to sign 'good enough' Declan Rice, Chelsea and Manchester United target

Declan Rice, a standout for West Ham United who has been strongly linked to Manchester United and Chelsea, should land a move to Liverpool, according to former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan.

In the past two seasons, Rice, 23, has made a name for himself as one of the Premier League's top holding midfielders. He has made 215 appearances for the Hammers, scoring 11 goals and dishing out 12 assists.

The 37-cap England international has served as a tireless worker in the middle of the park and has recently been the focus of numerous rumours. Since turning down numerous contract extensions from West Ham, he has caught the attention of Liverpool, Chelsea, and Manchester United.


Whelan offered his opinions on Rice's likely future Premier League clubs. He clarified: Rodri can be replaced with Kalvin Phillips, who already plays for Manchester City. Manchester United have made a big financial commitment to Casemiro. Newcastle United has been mentioned, but they would need to commit to Champions League football. Links to Chelsea have ceased to exist."

Whelan proceeded by analysing the Reds' recruitment approach. He said that these days, all he hears about Liverpool is that they plan to add midfielders. Jude Bellingham would have been their main goal a year ago, but given the way their season has started, it's possible that has altered since.

Rice would flourish at Anfield, according to Whelan as well. He said that he must be on Real Madrid and Barcelona's radar right now, especially in light of his World Cup performances. He believes Liverpool can reach its goal of signing Rice. He could enter and truly transform the space. Rice has admitted he wants to play in the Champions League, which is understandable given that he is talented enough to qualify.

Whelan went on and said that it might be difficult for them to sign Rice or Bellingham if they aren't in that competition the next season. But if he were in Rice's position, Liverpool would have been his choice.
