'Levitating' singer Dua Lipa granted Albanian citizenship, thanked President Bajram Begaj

Pop singer Dua Lipa received Albanian citizenship for promoting the country through her music and fame. President Bajram Begaj said "proud with her global career and engagement in important social causes".

English and Albanian singer and songwriter Dua Lipa has been granted Albanian citizenship. The singer has received citizenship for promoting the country through her music and fame. The citizenship was given by the Albanian President Bajram Begaj.

While giving the citizenship, President Bajram Begaj said that the singer had made the country "proud with her global career and engagement in important social causes".

On the other hand, Lipa said that it was "an indescribable great joy" to accept citizenship. While receiving the citizenship, the singer posed with the Albanian president, and later she took an oath of citizenship. Dua also gave her fingerprints and signed an application form for an identity card and passport.


For the ceremony, the singer was spotted wearing a blue dress with a brown checked pattern and paired the dress with high boots. Lipa was influenced by her father for singing and began singing when she was five years old.

The 'New Rules' singer was born to Kosovar-Albanian parents in 1995 in London. Later, she returned to the region as a teenager. In 1992, the singer's parents left Kosovo because of the war-like situation that took place in 1998. Lipa's family later moved to Camden. However, they never forgot to inherit the Albanian culture in Lipa.

The singer moved to London to pursue her career in singing and stayed in the city with a friend of the family until she was 16.

In 2016, Lipa told BBC, "I guess it was scary for [my parents]. But I was constantly on the phone to them: 'Ok, I've woken up. OK, I'm at school. OK, I'm back at home."

"For them, it must have been a rollercoaster of emotions. For me, it was the best time of my life," she further added.

Dua came to the limelight with some of her iconic songs including New Rules, Be The One, Don't Start Now, and Levitating.
