Leigh Wood vs Mauricio Lara: England fighter bags featherweight title by unanimous decision at Manchester Arena
Leigh Wood has won against Mauricio Lara to bag WBA world featherweight title in Manchester.

Ahead of the fight, Lara from Mexico City, entered as ESPN's number 1 featherweight. Wood dominated the fight from the very beginning. Two judges scored it 118-109 in favour of Wood, and a third had it 116-111 for Wood.
Earlier Lara was stripped of the title on Friday after British Boxing Board of Control had judged that he needs to weigh more than 128.5 pounds for the fight. Meanwhile, Lara weighed 129.8 pounds over the limit. Subsequently, WBA had decided to strip him of the belt.
Prior to the fight, Wood lost to Lara in a seventh-round stoppage in February. Now there is a possibility that Wood may face Luis Alberto Lopez in a unification fight.
Lopez defeated Michael Conlan in the IBF world featherweight title.
Lara, meanwhile, had a good record in England as he defeated the then world's leading featherweight Warrington in 2021. The victory against Lara in February also came on English soil.
