During the Berlin Film Festival, Kristen Stewart offered insights into the changing discourse surrounding films spotlighting queer and female perspectives. Beyond mere acknowledgment of their identities, Stewart urged a deeper appreciation for the narratives themselves.

"We need to break the cycle of dictating emotional responses to these films or merely patting ourselves on the back for providing a platform for marginalized voices," Stewart conveyed to reporters. "Focusing solely on their marginalized status falls short."

Returning to Berlin to promote "Love Lies Bleeding," a gritty crime-romance, Stewart emphasized a departure from stereotypical portrayals of queer narratives. In Rose Glass's film, Stewart portrays Lou, a gym manager entangled in a forbidden romance with Jackie, played by newcomer Katy O'Brian.

"In 'Love Lies Bleeding,' Glass thrusts traditionally sidelined characters into the limelight," Stewart explained, underscoring the film's exploration of marginalized perspectives. "It's about amplifying these voices without reducing them to their marginalization."

Accompanied by director Rose Glass at the press conference, Stewart delved deeper into the film's thematic choices and the significance of embracing diverse viewpoints.

Both Stewart and Glass engaged in candid dialogue, addressing issues ranging from the industry's treatment of women to personal experiences in Hollywood.

Stewart critiqued the prevalent narrative surrounding women in film, cautioning against reducing their work to empowerment stories alone. "Our discussions as female artists often revolve around empowerment, perpetuating the narrative of overcoming oppression," she observed.

Ultimately, Stewart advocated for a broader understanding of queer and female narratives, urging audiences and industry peers to move beyond simplistic labels and appreciate the richness and complexity of these stories.
