Knifeman dies in hospital after getting shot by police at Derby car park
A man armed with a knife was reported by police shortly before 10 am, and moments later, he was shot by armed officers.

What happened
The force said that the man was reportedly seen at 9:55 am in the Ascot Drive police station’s car park on Friday. It added that the man was shot at 10:03 am by the armed officers when called upon.Until the paramedics arrived at the scene, officers treated the man. He was declared dead on arrival after he was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Nobody else was hurt in this incident.
Inquiries are being conducted to identify the dead man and communicate with his next kin. The place of the incident has been cordoned off, and stores within the place are shut.
Moreover, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has been made aware of the incident.
“Six gunshots” were heard
The customers, who were shopping near the area in the morning, heard “six gunshots” ring out that triggered an evacuation of a B&M store, media reports said. Medical equipment and clothes can be seen scattered on the pavement with a shattered glass door at the Ascot Drive police station through an aerial image.A police spokesperson said that on October 7 around 9:55 am, in the secure car park off Ascot Drive in Derby, officers reported sighting a “man armed with a knife”. The spokesperson further said at 10:03 am, “a police firearm” was discharged.
