Buckingham Palace is getting ready to host prominent business figures and NGOs worldwide as King Charles is hosting a reception for the Cop27 event. This reception will be held before Cop27, the UN Summit for climate change.

There will be more than 200 guests, including names like the newly appointed Prime Minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak. Sunak had earlier declined to attend the Cop27 summit in Egypt. However, he reversed his decision after climate activists, Boris Johnson, and his advisor asked him to attend the event.

However, the King himself will not attend the event. Confirming the King’s absence, Downing Street stated that the King might have attended the summit if the Prime Minister had been present at the office when the year started. Since that was not the case, now it was not logistically feasible for the King to attend COP27 in Egypt.

Another spokesperson for the Palace stated that the monarchy reached a unanimous decision with the British Government for the King not to attend the summit.

The President of the previous COP26 summit, Alok Sharma, will pass UK’s Presidency to Egypt at COP27. Sharma is one of the guests invited to the Palace’s event. Other guests include John Kerry, the US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Change.
