Prime Minister of UK Rishi Sunak said that families and communities all over the country would come together to celebrate on that day. The announcement came after Tory MPs asked the government to move the early May bank holiday from May 1 to the weekend of the coronation, or to give an extra day off. The PM further stated that, "When a new king or queen is crowned, it is a special time for our country. In honor of this important event, I'm happy to say that the whole United Kingdom will get an extra bank holiday next year."

Oliver Dowden, the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster added, "This bank holiday will give people all over the United Kingdom another chance to come together as families and communities to welcome His Majesty to the throne as we mark this important day in our country's long history."

The bank holiday is happening two days after the coronation so that it doesn't conflict with local elections in England on Thursday, May 4. Election officials said that if Friday, May 5 was a bank holiday, people would take time off, which would mess up the vote count.
