King Charles III has offered a rare and hopeful update on his health. In a personal message broadcast as part of Stand Up to Cancer 2025, the monarch revealed a significant milestone in his recovery. The update marks a positive turn in a year shaped by treatment and a gradual return to royal duties.

What did King Charles reveal about his cancer recovery?

In a pre-recorded video message aired Friday, Dec. 12, King Charles III shared that his cancer treatment will be reduced in the coming year. "I am able to share with you the good news that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention and adherence to doctors' orders, my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the new year," he said. “This milestone is both a personal blessing and a testimony to the remarkable advances that have been made in cancer care in recent years.”


The message was filmed in November from the Morning Room at Clarence House, the official London residence he shares with Queen Camilla, as per a report by USA Today.



What has Buckingham Palace said about his health?

Buckingham Palace confirmed Friday that the king has “responded exceptionally well to treatment,” adding that doctors have advised moving his care into a “precautionary phase.” The palace noted that his condition will continue to be closely monitored to protect his recovery.

"This position will be continuously monitored and reviewed to protect and prioritize his continued recovery," the palace said. "As The King has said, this milestone on his recovery journey is 'a great personal blessing,'"the statement read, as per a report by USA Today.


What kind of cancer does King Charles have?

Despite openly discussing his experience, the king has chosen not to reveal his specific diagnosis. According to Buckingham Palace, “The advice from cancer experts is that, in his determination to support the whole cancer community, it is preferable that His Majesty does not address his own specific condition but rather speaks to those affected by all forms of the disease.”

Charles’ cancer was detected earlier this year following tests after a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate. He was briefly hospitalized after experiencing side effects from treatment, as per a report by USA Today.

The king’s diagnosis came shortly before Princess Kate also revealed she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy. In January, she subsequently declared that she was in remission.
