King Charles III pays musical tribute to Tina Turner at Buckingham Palace; Watch

King Charles III paid a royal tribute to Tina Turner who passed away on Tuesday aged 83. To honor the queen of rock ‘n’ roll, the Band of Welsh Guards at Buckingham Palace performed Turner’s 1989 hit song ‘The Best’ during the changing of the guard on Friday in London. Forces News shared the video of the tribute on social media and since then, the clip has gone viral.

During the 45-minute daily ceremony, the King’s Guard hands over the responsibility to the New Guard for safeguarding Buckingham Palace. It is to mention that the Welsh Guards were accompanied by the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards Corps of Drums in the ceremony on Friday.




The song used by the Band of Welsh Guards even became No.15 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. As per reports, the song also holds a special place in the heart of King Charles III’s eldest son, Prince William. Just in 2021, Prince of Wales had revealed how his mother, Princess Diana used to play music for Turner’s hit song for him and his younger brother, Prince Harry. Prince William told Apple’s Time to Walk podcast that his mother used to do that “to kind of while away the anxiety of going back to (boarding) school”.

He had also said that one of the most memorable Tina Turner’s songs for him was ‘The Best’ “because sitting in the backseat, singing away, it felt like a real family moment. And my mother, she’d be driving along, singing at the top of her voice…And when I listen to it now, it takes me back to those car rides and brings back lots of memories of my mother”.

Tina Turner, who was inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice, passed away on Tuesday following a long illness. She died at her home in Switzerland. Previously, she had survived a stroke in 2013. Turner was also diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2016 and went through kidney transplant in 2017.
