During the coronation ceremony, King Charles III will be crowned alongside Queen Consort Camilla. It is scheduled to take place on May 6. The plans for the coronation, code-named Operation Golden Orb.
Know what is Coronation
A crowning is both the actual act of laying a crown on a monarch's head and the symbolic religious rite that takes place during it. It symbolises the transmission of the monarch's title and authority and formalises the monarch's position as the head of the Church of England.
The monarch does not actually need to be crowned in order to become King. Without a coronation, Edward VIII held the throne, and Charles immediately succeeded Queen Elizabeth II when she passed away.
Bank holiday on May 8
On Monday, May 8, there will be an additional bank holiday in the UK. As part of the Big Help Out campaign, volunteers are encouraged to participate in community service projects on the same day. A concert and laser light show will take place at Windsor Castle on Sunday, May 7, according to a list of events released by Buckingham Palace for the weekend. Street gatherings celebrating the Celebration Big Lunch are also encouraged. The official Coronation logo, which Jonny Ive, a former Apple designer, developed, will be used to promote events.
