King Charles III, formerly the Prince of Wales, addressed the UK Parliament for the first time as the head of the British Monarchy on Monday. Charles became the natural heir to the throne after his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, passed away on September 8.

On Monday, dignitaries from the British Parliament assembled at St James’s Palace for the King’s maiden address. In his speech, the new King of the United Kingdom spoke about the responsibilities and duties that he has inherited from his mother, who had the longest reign as the head of the British Monarchy. King Charles also took the opportunity to "sorrowfully" inform his audience about the passing away of his mother.

Paying his tribute to the former Queen, the King said that his mother was unequaled in terms of her dedication and devotion to the kingdom. Charles promised to be committed to his duties and responsibilities towards the kingdom and follow the example his deceased mother had set.

Charles, the Prince of Wales, was formally announced the new King of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth Nations on Saturday. Since Friday, when the news of the Queen’s death was formally announced by the royal family, the UK has been observing seven-day national mourning. Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the British throne in February 1952 after her father, George IV, passed away.

Following his ascension to the throne, King Charles III made his elder son, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, the new Prince of Wales. William’s wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, will now be the Princess of Wales. Charles’s second wife, Camilla, became the Queen Consort, the position allotted by Queen Elizabeth herself during the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations in June.

In his address on Monday, the new king submitted that he was willing to take on the new responsibilities that arrive with being the head of the British Monarchy, with the help of His Government, for the betterment of the people of the UK and Commonwealth, in return of the Sovereign Grant. The funeral for Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, will be held on September 19.
