According to Royal author Katie Nicholl's book, ‘The Making of a Royal Romance’ which was released in 2011, Middleton wanted to spend some time with William back in 2006 but that never happened.

Nicholl claimed in her book that the Prince of Wales was left disheartened when a phone call was made. Nicholl's book claims that William cancelled the plan of meeting with Middleton on boxing day. He cancelled the plan so he could sit with his father and grandmother to discuss Middleton's future and the Royal family's acceptance of their relationship. It is to be heard that, both the Queen and William's father advised him not to move quickly with his decisions.
