Three of the six real-life children of June Brown, who acted as Dorothy Cotton in EastEnders, attended the funeral of the matriarch and can be seen in the episode.

The scene in the church where the congregation meets to say their farewell has June Brown’s real-life children also in attendance. The actress died aged 95 in April this year and had played the role for 31 years, with the character being given a burial. June Brown formally stopped acting in Eastenders at 93 in February 2020.

Apart from her children saying farewell to the fictional Dot, a former resident of Albert Square also attended. Albert Square, often referred to as 'Square' in EastEnders, is fictional.

EastEnders has been loved and criticised in equal measure over the years. The soap drew parallels in its storylines from real life and myths and got its share of criticism for showing extreme violence from time to time. For instance, the child-swapping episode was thoroughly criticised in 2010. That episode received 6000 complaints from fans and numerous complaints of racism and national stereotypes.
