JK Rowling funds women-only rape help centre in Edinburgh
British author JK Rowling thinks there is a dire need to help female abuse survivors, especially in the Lothian area. She has been vocal about women and children issues.

What is all about JK Rowling’s sexual assault crisis center?
The Beira’s Place, funded by JK Rowling, will support and advocate for women aged 16 and above in the Lothian region. It is meant for those who have experienced sexual assault at any time in their life. Elaborating further, JK Rowling says that she herself was a survivor of sexual abuse and knows how crucial it is that survivors must have access to such women-centric institutions that would care for them at vulnerable times.On the flip side, Rape Crisis Scotland has a different stance on this. They say the support center should also be accessible to non-binary and trans people. A spokesperson from Beira’s Place said as, and when needed, men or individuals identifying themselves as trans women will be referred to other suitable services.
Beira’s Place is named after the Scottish goddess of winter. Experienced, paid support workers will run it.
