After receiving more than 20,000 complaints over his column related to Meghan Markle, popular UK broadcaster Jeremy Clarkson has asked "The Sun" to remove his column. Complaints were made to the press regulator after Clarkson wrote last week that he hated Meghan “on a cellular level”. The newspaper has clarified that the controversial peice was removed from the website.
In their response, The Sun clarified that columnists' opinions were their own but as a publisher, with free expression comes responsibility as well. The piece soon became one of the most complained about articles in the history of Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO).
IPSO said it had received more than 17,500 complaints by 09:00 GMT on Tuesday - which rose to 20,800 by 17:00. However, now Sun’s website has removed the article from their website and archives, and replaced the controversial piece with a copy of the tweet from Clarkson in which he says he is horrified to have caused so much hurt and would be more careful in future. Even Clarkson’s daughter, Emily distanced herself from father’s word’s and said she wants to make it clear that she stands against everything her dad wrote about Markle.

In the original column, Clarkson had written that at night, he is unable to sleep as he lies there, grinding his teeth, dreaming of the day when Meghan was made to parade through the streets of every town, naked, in Britain while the crowds chanted 'Shame!' and throwed lumps of excrement towards her.
In his tweet post criticism, Clarkson clarified that he ended up making a "clumsy" reference to a scene in Game of Thrones which was not taken in a positive light by a huge number of people.

Oh dear. I’ve rather put my foot in it. In a column I wrote about Meghan, I made a clumsy reference to a scene in Game of Thrones and this has gone down badly with a great many people. I’m horrified to have caused so much hurt and I shall be more careful in future.
Clarkson believes that this is a dreadful failure of editing. He added that at atleast three points there were opportunities for people in senior responsible positions for putting their hand up and saying 'we can't publish this, this is just wrong'.
