Jared O'Mara: Former Labour MP jailed for 4 years over expenses fraud

Former MP Jared O'Mara and Labour Party politician was jailed for four years.

Former MP Jared O'Mara has been jailed for four years after being convicted of fraud. O'Mara was in debt to a drug dealer. He tried to claim £52,000 of taxpayers' money to manage fund cocaine habit, as per the report.

O'Mara submitted fake invoices to the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA). IPSA regulates business costs and pay of MPs. The 49-year-old former MP was convicted of six counts of fraud.

Along with O'Mara, Gareth Arnold was sentenced to 15-month jail term suspended for two years. Arnold submitted invoices to IPSA on behalf of O'Mara.


O'Mara was the MP for Sheffield Hallam from June 2017 to November 2019. He also quit the Labour Party.
