James Norton to feature in English-language theatrical version of novel ‘A Little Life’ at West End

James Norton will lead the cast of ‘A Little Life’, directed by Ivo van Hove, at the West End.

In 2018, Koen Tachelet adapted Hanya Yanagihara's immensely popular novel for theatre with the author's participation. It was noted for its distressing and "traumatic" subject matter.

The show, directed by van Hove, lasted for more than four hours and was performed in Dutch. A presentation of it was placed in Amsterdam.


The same piece was again performed at the Edinburgh International Festival this summer, but with English subtitles.

The English-language version of the show will have its world premiere on London's West End as announced on Wednesday, November 23.

With a run at the Harold Pinter Theatre from March 25 to June 18, 2023, Happy Valley star Norton will play the role of Jude (with a brief preview run at the Richmond Theatre from March 14 to 18).

It's A JB will be portrayed by Omari Douglas from Sin, Willem by Luke Thompson from Bridgerton, and Malcolm by Zach Wyatt.

Additional cast members include Emilio Doorgasingh, Nathalie Armin, Zubin Varla, and Elliot Cowan.

Although it was an unexpected global success for a book with 814 pages and heavy subject matter when it was released in 2015, A Little Life has sold over a million copies so far.
