Jaffa Cake and Mini Cheddar fear shortage as staff announces strike over wages

Fears of a shortage of the popular snack foods around Christmas are increased by the start of an "indefinite" strike by factory employees who produce Jaffa Cakes and Mini Cheddars. The Jacob's Biscuits workforce protest, according to a union, will "continue every single day" until a salary issue is resolved.
A total of 750 employees at a factory in Liverpool's Aintree are participating in the strike. The GMB union's national officer, Eamon O'Hearn, that the workers are rightfully angry.
They will be on strike until managers agree to negotiate higher pay, and keep going "every single day." The employees of Jacob's will now go on strike every day and night until the business returns to the bargaining table.
They risked their lives to keep the business operating during the pandemic outbreak. Now they need assistance to get them through the crisis at the expense of living, but it is being ignored.
Union sources claim that pay negotiations had lasted for more than a year, with minimal industrial action beginning in September. Employees reportedly received 4.25% raise offers.

It is believed that the GMB requested a 10% raise to prevent a decrease in the real salaries of its members. It's been reported that Jacobs' parent firm thinks such a hike would be too expensive.
