Iran protests: Football legend Ali Daei's wife and daughter stopped from leaving country

The 53-year old Iranian footballer Ali Daei’s family was removed from the plane and stopped from going out of the country.

Iran’s legendary footballer Ali Daei told that his family was stopped from leaving the country and rerouted. His wife and daughter were travelling to join him in Dubai for holidays, but the plane carrying his family landed in Iranian Island and removed them.

Daei's family was interrogated by the authorities. The daughter of the footballer was released, but they were not allowed to board the flight to Dubai. He said that if they had been banned, the passport police system would have informed. He is yet to recieve an answer about this.

The 53-year old footballer has actively supported the anti-government protests. In a recent social media post, he asked the authorities to solve the country’s problems instead of using oppression and violence against people. This post landed him in trouble, his shops were shut down by the authorities in retaliation. Later Daei said in his Instagram post that he received numerous threats for his life from unknown people.

The Iran government has banned and questioned many celebrities including Iranian actor Hamid Farrokhnejad, Iranian singer Homayoun Shajarian and Sahar Dolatshahi for supporting the protest against the government.

Iraninas are running the longest anti-government protest since the 1979 Islamic revolution. Many protestors including children were killed. This protest is different from other protests held in Iran as women from across the country are leading with the slogan "Woman, Life, Freedom." This protest erupted after 22-year old Mhasa Amini was killed in custody for wearing hijab improperly.

Ali Daei played for the Iran's national football team from 2000 to 2006. He was globally known for his prolific goalkeeping. Post retirement, he served as a member of FIFA football committee for 6 years.
