The newly launched system will allow police officers across the globe to connect in a virtual model of Interpol's Lyon headquarters. There they can participate in various immersive training routines for different policing work, including forensic investigation.

Jürgen Stock, Interpol Secretary General, announced it at the 90th General Assembly organized last week in New Delhi.

Stock said that the launch of the metaverse ushered in the idea of a nonconventional future. Still, the issues that come along with it have always motivated Interpol member countries to fight crime and make the physical and virtual world a safe space for everyone.

Interpol announced the commencement of a metaverse expert forum, which would represent the concerns of law enforcement on a global scale.

As the metaverse becomes more popular and more people flock to it, crime in our digital world has also increased exponentially. Criminals have already started to exploit the metaverse.

Interpol released a Global Crime Trend report last week; 70 per cent of officers from member countries expect ransomware and phishing attacks to increase significantly over the coming three to five years.

The report also states that most offenses will be financial and offered as a service by cybercriminals giving access to the knowledge and equipment required to commit the cybercrime.--
