In a first, Tory MP Luke Evans delivers AI-generated speech at UK House of Commons

Luke Evans, a Conservative MP, delivered an AI-generated speech in the House of Commons.
He used a recently released chatbot called ChatGPT to deliver his speech.
Evans began his speech by telling the House that “this may be a first”. The AI programme formulated the speech on the command to write “a Churchillian speech on the state of the U.K. over the last 12 months”.

When intervened by Labour’s Kevin Brennan, the MP for Cardiff West, Evans emphasised on the significance of AI and algorithms in shaping today’s society.

“Now AI and algorithms are going to have a huge impact on the labour market, diagnosis, tools, education, society and it needs a far wider debate than today,” Evans said.

The Tory MP noted that this year has seen a seismic change in the way in which AI can be used.
