Ilford South MP Sam Tarry mulls challenging Labour party's deselection process

Sam Tarry, the Labour MP for Ilford South, might appeal his last-night deselection by his constituency party.
Jas Athwal, the head of Redbridge Council and a regarded ally of Wes Streeting, a right-wing Labour politician, was chosen to represent Labour in the seat at the upcoming election by a vote of 499-361.

It is the only location Sam Tarry would ever want to represent, according to Jas Athwal. Tarry said he was “utterly crestfallen by the result in the Ilford South selection last night. Not for myself, but for the good people of Ilford who deserve better than to have been at the centre of a manufactured political circus.





“I am extremely concerned about the result, which does not reflect the feeling my campaigners met on the ground talking day in, day out to members, or the extensive meticulous data we gathered on the campaign.


He expressed his tremendous concern over the outcome, saying it did not reflect the sentiment his campaigners encountered while on the ground speaking to constituents daily or the in-depth, careful information he acquired on the campaign.

While he is taking some time to think about what to do next, he is asking the party to share with him all of the data regarding who cast electronic votes, how they were cast, and when they were released, which he understands is available on the "anonyvoter" system, to ensure the integrity of the outcome.

He will continue to stand in for the residents of Ilford South in the interim, Tarry confirmed.
