US National Hurricane Center reports that the storm is expected to bring damaging winds, life-threatening storm surges, and flooding to central and western Mexico today. The core was located about 75 miles west of Cabo Corrientes, a peninsula south of Puerto Vallarta jutting into the Pacific Ocean.
Roslyn is expected to pass through Cabo Corrientes and Puerto Vallarta overnight, but the area will still experience strong winds, heavy rain, and strong waves. A hurricane warning has been issued for Playa Perula, from Las Islas Marias to Escuinapa. According to the center, a storm advisory is in place for Escuinapa, north of Mazatlan.
The Nayarit state government said the hurricane was expected to make landfall near San Blas, about 90 miles north of Puerto Vallarta. In the neighbouring state of Jalisco, 270 people were evacuated from villages close to the expected storm path. Five emergency shelters were also set up in Puerto Vallarta, which was evacuated.
