Awaab Ishak was a two-year-old boy who died from a severe respiratory condition caused by mould in his home. The boy's father had asked the Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) to take action, but none was taken. Joanne Kearsley, the coroner, said Rochdale Boroughwide Housing was not proactive and questioned how a boy could die due to mould exposure in the UK in 2020. She said Awaab's case should be the housing sector's defining moment for change.

Things to change going forward?

Awaab Ishak's family was devastated when he passed away in 2020, and felt worthless and helpless at the hands of Rochdale Boroughwide Housing. The parents mentioned through their solicitor how they pleaded in front of Rochdale Boroughwide Housing and health professionals as they were concerned with the living conditions. They said they shouted as much as they could and made as much noise as possible. Yet, the family had to face the same problems.
