How a gang mastered a £420,000 gem heist?

In a scene directly out a heist movie, thieves in Italy stole jewellery worth £420,000 in a planned manner and seem to have gotten away. The investigators shed light on their methods which has shocked the capital city of Rome in Italy. The popular jewellery brand Bulgari whose store is located on Via Condotti in Rome was targeted by thieves on Saturday. Though crimes are on the rise in Italy, this organized crime has shocked many citizens, especially those in the jewellery business who have demanded increased surveillance around key establishments in the city.

Method of Theft:
The method of theft seems to be directly out of a heist movie. The investigators revealed that the thieves began by drilling into the shop’s basement. It has been suspected that the thieves who are estimated to have been about three to five masked burglars barricaded a side door through which the police tried to gain entry into the shop.


When they began to snatch watches and jewellery from the display cabinets, a security alarm went off. This alerted a security firm and then the police who made their way to the shop.

When the cops arrived, it was not an easy entry into the shop. The entrance that was barricaded by the gang of thieves proved to be an obstacle as it took more than five minutes for the cops to enter the shop. This gave sufficient time for the burglars to get away through the sewers. These sewers which have been in existence since the ancient times are elaborate and provided enough opportunities for them to get away.

The Police also believe that the thieves may have earlier posed as customers and entered the shop to study its layout. This gang is suspected to be linked to other gangs who have dug up tunnels to gain entry into banks in Rome.
