Harlequins’ Joe Marler faces lengthy ban for remarks made towards Bristol’s Jake Heenan

Rugby player Joe Marler of Harlequins and England prop has been charged over comments made to Bristol flanker Jake Heenan.
Marler made unnecessary comments towards Bristol former Connacht player Jake Heenan in a heated game. According to the Rugby Football Union, Marler had been charged under the 5.12 rule (prejudice to the game). As a result, a lengthy ban can be imposed on Marler.

During the Gallagher Premiership match's first half, Marler passed comments about Heenan's mother, calling her a sex- worker and later made another remark which was against the code of conduct on the field. The RFU governing body recently released a press note, which mentioned that Marler will face a 'disciplinary' hearing.



The RFU quoted that Joe Marler from Harlequins has been changed under the 5.12 rule of RFU and disrupted the code of conduct during the match against a player from Bristol Bears on December 27, 2022.

Back in 2016, Marler received a two-week suspension and was fined £20,000 for calling Samson Lee from Wales prop a 'gypsy boy'. Two years ago, during the Six Nations game, Marler received a 10-week ban for grabbing Wales lock Alin Wyn Jones' genitals. However, coach Pat Lam, said to the press, Marler is like a son to him but had no idea why the rugby player made such comments on the field.
