Media Questioned Mercury's Sexuality

By this point, rumours about Mercury receiving an AIDS diagnosis in 1986 were circulating. A few newspapers even published images of Mercury on occasions when he appeared significantly thinner and lighter. A day after making a public statement, on November 23, 1991, he passed away at age 45 from bronchopneumonia, an illness related to AIDS.

Although the announcement displeased Mercury's fans, his death raised attention to AIDS and its prevention, and to this day, scientists are working hard to find a cure for the chronic ailment.

What is HIV?

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is the primary cause of the chronic, potentially fatal disease AIDS (HIV). It is an infection that is spread through sexual contact and through contact with blood that has been infected. Medicines control the condition and slow or prevent its progression, even though there is no known cure for the illness.

Symptoms of HIV

Several weeks after being infected with HIV, flu-like problems such as a sore throat, drowsiness, and fever may develop. Rashes, diarrhea, weight loss, and joint pain are some potential signs of the disease. After that, it remains undetectable until it develops into AIDS.
