Gervonta Davis retains WBA world lightweight title after defeating Hector Luis Garcia in 8 rounds
Gervonta Davis has retained his WBA world lightweight championship as he defeated Hector Luis Garcia on Sunday by TKO after eight rounds.

Now, the Baltimore native, who is fighting in his second hometown will face Ryan Garcia in April which is also deemed one of the most anticipated boxing matches of the year. However, for the forthcoming match, Davis had to defeat Dominican Hector Luis Garcia. The crowd of around 19,731 people had to wait just until before 1 am for the matching top to begin but both contenders, Davis and Garcia has to wait even more to set a pace for the game.
Initial rounds between the two were not significant as only a handful of punches were thrown. However, Davis managed to find his spot in the fourth round when he hit Garcia with multiple jabs and the viewers were on the edges of their seats. As per reports, an altercation by Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill and boxer Gary Russell Jr near the stands urged the referee to stop the game midway through the eighth round but the fight resumed for over a minute. In the closing moments of the last round, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis rocked Garcia with his left hand.
With the TKO, Davis (28-0, 26 KOs) has managed to keep his fight intact with Ryan Garcia scheduled for April 15, 2023, in Las Vegas.
