Gas canister exploded at Glasgow St Enoch Square's Christmas Market, 2 injured

In a shocking incident, a massive explosion took place in the St Enoch Square's Christmas market on the morning of December 05. Due to the explosion, two people were injured and were rushed to the hospital. As per the police investigation, around 11 am (local time) a gas canister exploded in the busy city centre in Glasgow.

"We were made aware of an explosion involving a gas canister at a food stall in St Enoch Square in Glasgow around 11 am on Monday, 5 December," a Scotland police official said.

After the explosion took place, the police cordoned off the remaining area. The two injured were taken to the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service, and their condition is still unknown at this moment.


"It was one of the shipping containers at the Chinese food stall. The doors blew open on it. It was full of gas bottles, so must have been leaking gas into the container and blew," an eyewitness told GlasgowLive.

"Two girls were standing at the doors of it when it happened. Sirens came pretty quickly, and first aiders were with the then hysterical girls, so I left before the area was cordoned off," the eyewitness further added.



According to the woman, who works at the stalls near the market where the explosion took place said that the market is now operating normally.

“I wasn’t here at the time of the explosion, I was down at George Square, but a man turned to me and asked if I knew what was happening. That’s when I started walking up," the woman said.

Meanwhile, after the explosion, the St Enoch subway station was shut for around ten minutes.
