Gary Glitter out of jail after serving half of 16-year sentence
Gary Glitter was imprisoned in 2015 for sexually abusing three schoolgirls.

Gary Glitter, also known as Paul Gadd, has been released from prison after serving half of his fixed-term sentence for sexually abusing three minors. As a result of his release, the convicted sex offender will be subject to various license conditions. The former pop star, who rose to fame in the 1970s, was jailed in 2015.
Gary Glitter committed his crimes against the three young girls, aged 12 and 13, during the peak of his fame several decades ago. He lured the victims away from their mothers by inviting them to his dressing room after one of his shows. Prosecutors stated that Glitter took advantage of the girls' vulnerability and believed that their accusations would not be taken seriously due to his fame.
Glitter's third victim was under the age of 10 when he entered her bed and attempted to rape her in 1975. The allegations were not reported until nearly 40 years later, when Glitter became the first individual arrested as part of Operation Yewtree, a police investigation prompted by the Jimmy Savile scandal. When sentencing Glitter, Judge Alistair McCreath stated that the abuse had a profound impact on all of the victims.
The court was informed that Gary Glitter had not shown any remorse or taken responsibility for his actions, despite being convicted of one count of attempted rape, one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor under the age of 13, and four counts of indecent assault.
Gary Glitter was expelled from Cambodia in 2002 following reports of sex crimes, and in 2006 he was found guilty of sexually assaulting two girls, ages 10 and 11, in Vietnam.
In February 2022, it was announced that Glitter would be released early from prison. Offenders convicted of sexual offenses are required to adhere to strict license conditions, including residing in a designated location, obeying curfews, undergoing GPS monitoring, avoiding unsupervised contact with minors, and limitations on internet use. Exclusion zones can also be established to protect victims' families from unwanted contact. If the license conditions are violated, the Probation Service has the authority to recall the offender to prison.
